To celebrate their 160th anniversary the iconic British brand Sunspel invited Scottish born artist John Booth to create his own colourful take on the brand using the Sunspel archives to design a special capsule collection. Celebrated for his bold and instantly-recognisable use of colour John’s vivid, multi-layered collages work has appeared on vases, cushions and tables, as well as in print and paint work.
For the SS20 collection, John created a vibrant seasonal colour palette and graphic print that was built around his own exciting reimagining of Sunspel’s classic Sun and Clouds logo. Initially designed back in the 1930s the logo is a nod to the brand's use of luxury Sea Island cotton harvested under the Caribbean sun. Whilst John’s playful interpretation of the vintage imagery sees it developed into six distinct colour tones applied to a variety of key pieces.
The Sunspel x John Booth collaboration also extends to a limited edition reworked Sun and Cloud patch collection, that features replaceable embroidered patches on a range of tees and sweatshirts. Specifying the placement of each patch, John also selected the core colours and stripes as well as handpicking the colour combinations for a colour block version of Sunspel’s classic Made in England T-Shirt.
